Living well with Alzheimer’s disease requires consistent and thorough check-ins with your care team — particularly, your neurologist. But the very nature of neurodegenerative conditions can make it challenging to have productive visits with your provider. You may worry you’ll forget the symptoms you want to discuss, or it may be hard to accept that changes are happening to your brain (both these experiences are completely normal, by the way).

Preparing for your neurology appointments in advance can ease worries and ensure you cover your most important points and questions. Make this prep easier on yourself by starting a week or two before your visit is scheduled, and recruiting a trusted loved one to help.

This list, developed in collaboration with David Perlmutter, MD, a board-certified neurologist and author of Brain Defenders, can help you go into your appointment with confidence, advocate for your needs, and leave with the information and clarity you deserve.
